Cancer Research Technology Sources New Antibodies and Cell Lines in Commercialisation Deal with the Leukaemia Research Immunodiagnostics Unit of the University of Oxford
23rd February 2006 – Cancer Research Technology Limited (CRT, the specialist technology development and commercialisation company), has signed an agreement to commercialise a large number of monoclonal antibodies from The University of Oxford.
Under this agreement, CRT will commercialise antibodies and hybridoma cell lines produced by Leukaemia Research-funded scientists in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford. A number of these researchers are members of the The Leukaemia Research Immunodiagnostics Unit, which has specialised over many years in antibody production and has a long-standing reputation in lymphoma research. In addition, the Unit initiated several years ago a hybridoma production service that aims to raise antibodies for other Leukaemia Research-funded laboratories.
This relationship will add in excess of 60 new products from Oxford to CRT’s existing portfolio of more than 350 antibodies available for licensing, and also includes monoclonal antibodies to be produced in the Immunodiagnostics Unit in the future.
Establishing partnerships with academic facilities and institutes for reagent commercialisation, independent of funding from Cancer Research UK, represents a new strategy for CRT and builds on a similar agreement completed with the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC). By initiating such relationships, CRT utilises its expertise and experience in diagnostic and research tool commercialisation to partner reagents with commercial suppliers and provide the scientific community with access to important research tools.
