CRT's core business is to advance exciting academic discoveries, that may lead to a potential therapeutic, diagnostic or technology platform. CRT can offer research partners the following services:
Technology
Transfer Agent for Cancer Research Funding Bodies and Institutes
CRT can provide a complete technology transfer service for all oncology
discoveries arising from a research funding body or institute.
This type of arrangement enables the development of close
relationships with the researchers and other institute personnel,
which facilitates effective monitoring of research results
as they emerge. This enables strong patents to be filed
at the appropriate time and the optimal commercialisation
of inventions to be achieved.
Management
of Specific Projects or Research Programmes
An alternative option for some of our research partners,
which already have an established technology transfer office
and a broad base of research activity, is to work with CRT
on a project by project basis. This may involve
CRT working on one or more specific projects, or programmes,
at any stage of development.
Technology
Assessment Audits
This is an optional service offered by CRT to
institutions that are not funded by Cancer Research UK.
CRT can undertake a comprehensive review of all the research
programmes underway within the institution, or any selected
department. Under complete confidentiality, CRT will produce
a report highlighting:
- Research groups that have made, or are near to making, potentially patentable inventions.
- Research groups that could benefit from collaboration or licensing agreements with commercial partners.
Project
Evaluation and Applied Development
CRT projects are comprehensively researched to
expand the scientific understanding around the initial invention,
and to enable the strongest clinical and market position
to be established. CRT business managers will usually propose
a course of project development to add value to the invention.
This may involve further experiments in the scientist's
laboratory, or more industrially-orientated development
work that may be undertaken within CRT's Laboratories, or in collaboration with a commercial partner.
Development
Funding
Working with the lead scientists, CRT can facilitate an
application for funds from the Discovery
Fund, a joint initiative with Cancer Research UK, to
support applied research and development for cancer patient
benefit.
Pre-Clinical
and Clinical Development
For the development of novel therapeutics, CRT can help
research partners access the Cancer
Research UK Drug Development Office, which has unrivalled
expertise in the academic sector in pre-clinical and early
phase clinical drug development.
