What We Do

CRT facilitates the identification, protection, development and marketing of new cancer therapies, diagnostics and enabling technologies by working closely with cancer scientists and their institutes:

Identifying, evaluating and protecting new cancer discoveries and inventions
The Business Management team is responsible for all aspects of an invention's project management. The teams work closely with cancer research scientists to identify, evaluate and protect new cancer discoveries and inventions. At any one time, the Business Management team may be managing more than 200 projects.

Establishing optimal development pathways for inventions
CRT projects are comprehensively researched to expand and deepen the scientific understanding around the initial invention, and to enable the strongest clinical and market position to be established. CRT business managers will usually propose a course of project development that may involve further experiments in the scientist’s laboratory, or more industrially-orientated development work to add value to the invention. The business manager will recommend whether this should be undertaken within CRT’s Development Laboratories, the host institution or in collaboration with a commercial partner.

Concluding effective industrial partnerships and collaborations
Establishing the right commercial exploitation strategy calls for considerable knowledge of oncology research, the immediate development needs of the project and its potential market value. To identify the ideal commercial partner also requires an up to date awareness of what is happening in the industry and the particular focus of companies developing oncology-based products. Over many years, CRT has built up a global network of commercial relationships and tools, which help it effectively transfer inventions to commercial partners. It is through this knowledge and experience that CRT business managers can assess which companies have the greatest likelihood of achieving patient benefit from scientists' discoveries.
