| Antigen: |
Integrin α3 (CD49c) |
| Relevance: |
Integrins are heterodimeric
cell surface receptors composed of α and β
subunits, which mediate cell-cell and cell-extracellular
matrix attachments. Aberrant integrin expression has
been found in many epithelial tumours. Changes in integrin
expression have been shown to be important for the growth
and early metastatic capacity of melanoma cells. Integrin
α3 is found on most cell types.
Integrin α3 associates
with β1
integrin to form integrin α3β1,
which is one of the most abundant keratinocyte integrins
and binds laminin 5. |
